अतिष्ठत्सह मैन्देन द्विविदेन च वीर्यवान् ।
अङ्गदो दक्षिणद्वारं जग्राह सुमहाबलः ॥६-४१-३९॥
atiṣṭhatsaha maindena dvividena ca vīryavān |
aṅgado dakṣiṇadvāraṃ jagrāha sumahābalaḥ ॥6-41-39॥
Translation
...the powerful (Nila) stationed himself along with Mainda and Dvivida. The exceedingly mighty Angada took charge of the Southern gate.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...वीर्यवान (नील) मैन्द और द्विविद के साथ स्थित हुआ। महाबली अंगद ने दक्षिण द्वार को अपने अधिकार में लिया (मोर्चा संभाला)।
English Commentary
Nila is supported by the twin warriors Mainda and Dvivida at the East. The mighty Angada is assigned the Southern Gate. In the Ramayana's tactical layout, specific commanders are matched against specific gates. Angada's strength is needed at the South, often considered a challenging direction.

नील अकेले नहीं, बल्कि अश्विनी कुमारों के पुत्र मैन्द और द्विविद के साथ पूर्व में डटे। दक्षिण द्वार, जो यम की दिशा मानी जाती है, उस पर बालि पुत्र अंगद ने मोर्चा संभाला। दक्षिण द्वार पर महापाार्श्व आदि जैसे भयानक राक्षस थे। अंगद की शक्ति ('सुमहाबल') इस कठिन मोर्चे के लिए उपयुक्त थी।
