Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यस्य दण्डधरस्तेऽहं दाराहरणकर्शितः ।
दण्डं धारयमाणस्तु लङ्काद्वारे व्यवस्थितः ॥६-४१-६५॥
yasya daṇḍadharaste'haṃ dārāharaṇakarśitaḥ |
daṇḍaṃ dhārayamāṇastu laṅkādvāre vyavasthitaḥ ॥6-41-65॥
Translation
I am that very person, tormented by the abduction of my wife, who has become your punisher (Dandadhara). Holding the rod of punishment, I am stationed at the gate of Lanka.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं वही (श्री राम) हूँ जो पत्नी के अपहरण से पीड़ित होकर तुम्हारा दंडधर (दंड देने वाला) बना हूँ। मैं दंड धारण किए हुए लंका के द्वार पर उपस्थित हूँ।
English Commentary
Shri Rama assumes the persona of 'Dandadhara'—the wielder of the rod of justice (often associated with Yama). He acknowledges his personal pain ('dara-aharana-karshitah') but channels it into a judicial role. He is not just fighting a war; he is executing a sentence. Standing at the gate, he represents inescapable justice.

श्री राम स्वयं को 'दंडधर' (न्यायाधीश/यमराज) घोषित करते हैं। यद्यपि वे 'दाराहरणकर्शित' (पत्नी के हरण से दुखी) हैं, लेकिन उनका रूप अब एक निजी शत्रु का नहीं, बल्कि ईश्वरीय न्याय का है। वे लंका के द्वार पर काल बनकर खड़े हैं।
