दूतोऽहं कोसलेन्द्रस्य रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः ।
वालिपुत्रोऽङ्गदो नाम यदि ते श्रोत्रमागतः ॥६-४१-८०॥
dūto'haṃ kosalendrasya rāmasyākliṣṭakarmaṇāḥ |
vāliputro'ṅgado nāma yadi te śrotramāgataḥ ॥6-41-80॥
Translation
I am the messenger of the Lord of Kosala, Shri Rama, of unwearied deeds. My name is Angada, son of Vali, if (that name) has reached your ears.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं कोसल नरेश अक्लिष्टकर्मा श्री राम का दूत हूँ। मेरा नाम बालिपुत्र अंगद है, यदि (यह नाम) तुम्हारे कानों तक पहुँचा हो।
English Commentary
Angada introduces himself with a sting. 'Son of Vali'—a name that invokes trauma for Ravana (who was defeated by Vali). The sarcastic 'if you have heard of me' implies that Ravana should be afraid. He establishes his credentials as the envoy of the Emperor of Kosala, asserting equal diplomatic standing.

अंगद का परिचय व्यंग्य और धमकी से भरा है। 'यदि ते श्रोत्रमागतः'—क्या तुमने मेरा नाम सुना है? यह रावण को बालि की याद दिलाने के लिए है, जिसने रावण को अपनी कांख में दबा लिया था। 'बालिपुत्र' कहना ही रावण को डराने के लिए काफी था। वह श्री राम को 'कोसलेन्द्र' कहकर एक संप्रभु राजा का दूत होने का दावा करता है।
