कृत्स्नं हि कपिभिर्व्याप्तं प्राकारपरिखान्तरम् ।
ददृशुः राक्षसा दीनाः प्राकारं वानरीकृतम् ॥६-४१-९९॥ हाहाकारं प्रकुर्वन्ति राक्षसा भयमोहिताः ॥ ॥६-४१-९९॥

Translation
Seeing the entire space between the defensive walls and the moat filled with monkeys, the miserable demons beheld the ramparts as if transformed into monkeys. Overcome with fear and delusion, the demons began to cry out in distress.

प्राचीर (चारदीवारी) और खाई के बीच के संपूर्ण स्थान को वानरों से व्याप्त देखकर, दीन-हीन राक्षसों ने प्राचीर को वानरमय देखा। भय से मोहित होकर राक्षस हाहाकार करने लगे।
English Commentary
This passage vividly portrays the psychological impact of the Vanara army on the inhabitants of Lanka. The term 'Vānarikṛtam' is poetic and significant; it suggests that the fortifications appeared to be made of monkeys rather than stones, so dense was their presence. The demons, previously arrogant, are now described as 'dīnāḥ' (miserable or dejected). Seeing the sheer magnitude of Shri Rama's army, their morale crumbled. The act of crying out 'Hahakara' in fear and delusion signifies the panic setting in within Ravana's stronghold, foreshadowing the victory of Dharma over Adharma.

यह दृश्य लंका के निवासियों में व्याप्त भय का सजीव चित्रण है। 'वानरीकृतम्' शब्द अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है, जिसका अर्थ है कि दीवारें अब पत्थर की नहीं रहीं, बल्कि वानरों का समूह प्रतीत हो रही थीं। श्री राम की सेना की विशाल संख्या ने राक्षसों के मनोबल को तोड़ दिया था। जो राक्षस पहले गर्वित थे, वे अब 'दीनाः' (दुखी) हो गए हैं। वानरों का यह घेराव अधर्म पर धर्म के आसन्न प्रहार का सूचक है। भय से व्याकुल होकर वे हाहाकार करने लगे, जो उनके आसन्न विनाश की पूर्वसूचना है।
