परिघाः पूरयन्ति स्म प्रसन्नसलिलायुताः ।
पांसुभिः पर्वताग्रैश्च तृणैः काष्ठैश्च वानराः ॥६-४२-१६॥
parighāḥ pūrayanti sma prasannasalilāyutāḥ |
pāṃsubhiḥ parvatāgraiśca tṛṇaiḥ kāṣṭhaiśca vānarāḥ ॥6-42-16॥
Translation
The monkeys began filling the moats, which were filled with clear water, with dust, mountain peaks, grass, and wood.

वानरों ने निर्मल जल से भरी हुई खाइयों (परिखाओं) को धूल, पर्वत-शिखरों, तिनकों और लकड़ियों से भरना शुरू कर दिया।
English Commentary
Tactically, filling the moats ('parikhah') is crucial to breach the walls. The Vanaras show resourcefulness by using debris ('pamsubhih', 'trinaih', 'kashthaih') to create causeways. The contrast between 'prasanna-salila' (clear water) and the debris signifies the muddying and disruption of Lanka's pristine defenses by the invading force.
