ततः सहस्रयूथाश्च कोटियूथाश्च वानराः ।
कोटीशतयुताश्चान्ये लङ्कामारुरुहुस्तदा ॥६-४२-१७॥
tataḥ sahasrayūthāśca koṭiyūthāśca vānarāḥ |
koṭīśatayutāścānye laṅkāmaruruhustadā ॥6-42-17॥
Translation
Then, monkeys in troops of thousands, troops of ten millions (Crores), and others in troops of hundreds of Crores ascended Lanka at that time.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब हजारों के यूथ वाले, करोड़ों के यूथ वाले, तथा सौ करोड़ के यूथ वाले अन्य वानर उस समय लंका पर चढ़ गए।
English Commentary
The scale of the invasion escalates. Valmiki uses vast numbers to describe the waves of attackers scaling the walls. It conveys a sense of overwhelming force. The sheer density of the attackers makes the defense of Lanka seem increasingly desperate, as the walls are swarmed by 'kotiyuthah' (millions of troops).

वानर सेना की विशाल संख्या का वर्णन है। वे लहरों की तरह लंका की दीवारों पर चढ़ने लगे। 'कोटि' (करोड़) और 'कोटिशत' (सौ करोड़) जैसी संख्याएं अतिशयोक्तिपूर्ण लग सकती हैं, लेकिन महाकाव्य के संदर्भ में यह एक अजेय और अनंत सेना का आभास कराती हैं जो चींटियों की तरह शत्रु के किले को ढक लेती है।
