Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
रुद्धां तु नगरीं श्रुत्वा जातक्रोधो निशाचरः ।
विधानं द्विगुणं कृत्वा प्रासादं सोऽध्यरोहत् ॥६-४२-२॥
ruddhāṃ tu nagarīṃ śrutvā jātakrodho niśācaraḥ |
vidhānaṃ dviguṇaṃ kṛtvā prāsādaṃ so'dhyarohat ॥6-42-2॥
Translation
Hearing that the city was besieged, the Night-Roamer (Ravana) became enraged. Having doubled the defensive arrangements, he ascended the palace (roof).
हिंदी अनुवाद
नगरी को घिरा हुआ सुनकर उस निशाचर (रावण) को क्रोध आ गया। उसने (रक्षा) व्यवस्था को दोगुना करके महल (की छत) पर आरोहण किया।
English Commentary
Ravana's immediate reaction is anger ('jatakrodhah'), consistent with his character. However, he acts swiftly as a military commander by doubling the defensive measures ('vidhanam dvigunam'). His ascent to the palace roof signifies his desire to personally assess the magnitude of the threat. This action reveals a mix of arrogance and tactical awareness.

घेराबंदी की खबर सुनकर रावण की तत्काल प्रतिक्रिया क्रोध ('जातक्रोधः') थी, जो उसके अहंकारी स्वभाव के अनुकूल है। एक कुशल शासक की भांति उसने तुरंत रक्षा पंक्ति को सुदृढ़ करने का आदेश दिया—'विधानं द्विगुणं कृत्वा' (सुरक्षा दोगुनी करके)। इसके बाद वह स्वयं स्थिति का जायजा लेने के लिए महल के शिखर पर चढ़ा। यह दर्शाता है कि रावण शत्रु को हल्के में नहीं ले रहा था।
