हेमकोणाहता भीमा राक्षसानां समन्ततः ।
विनेदुश्च महाघोषाः शङ्खाः शतसहस्रशः ॥६-४२-३५॥
hemakoṇāhatā bhīmā rākṣasānāṃ samantataḥ |
vineduśca mahāghoṣāḥ śaṅkhāḥ śatasahasraśaḥ ॥6-42-35॥
Translation
Struck by gold sticks, those terrible drums and hundreds of thousands of loud-sounding conches resounded everywhere among the Rakshasas.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सोने के डंडों (कोण) से पीटी गई वे भयानक भेरियां और लाखों की संख्या में महाघोष वाले शंख राक्षसों के बीच सब ओर बजने लगे।
English Commentary
The opulence of Lanka extends to warfare; even drumsticks are made of gold ('hemakona'). The scale of the mobilization is hinted at by the 'hundreds of thousands' of conches blowing. The combined cacophony of drums and conches creates a wall of sound designed to intimidate the Vanaras.

राक्षसों का वैभव उनके वाद्य यंत्रों में भी दिखता है—नगाड़े बजाने के डंडे सोने के ('हेमकोण') थे। लाखों ('शतसहस्रशः') शंखों का नाद हुआ। यह ध्वनि प्रदूषण नहीं, बल्कि ध्वनि युद्ध था, जिसका उद्देश्य शत्रु को भयभीत करना था।
