राक्षसानां सुघोराणां मुखमारुतपूरिताः ।
ते बभुः शुक्लनीलाङ्गाः सशङ्खा रजनीचराः ॥६-४२-३६॥
rākṣasānāṃ sughorāṇāṃ mukhamārutapūritāḥ |
te babhuḥ śuklanīlāṅgāḥ saśaṅkhā rajanīcarāḥ ॥6-42-36॥
Translation
Filled with the breath from the mouths of those terrible Rakshasas, those conches and the Night-Roamers holding them looked like dark clouds with white cranes/lightning.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन अत्यंत भयानक राक्षसों के मुख की हवा से भरे हुए (बजाए जाते हुए) वे शंख और (उन्हें बजाने वाले) वे निशाचर ऐसे सुशोभित हुए जैसे नीले (काले) शरीर वाले बादलों में सफेद बगुले हों (या बिजली हो)।
English Commentary
A striking visual metaphor. The dark-skinned ('nilanga') Rakshasas blowing white conches ('shukla') are compared to dark clouds interspersed with white cranes or lightning. This imagery captures the contrast of colors and the ominous, cloud-like mass of the Rakshasa army advancing.

वाल्मीकि जी एक अद्भुत उपमा देते हैं। राक्षस काले/नीले रंग के थे ('नीलांग') और शंख सफेद ('शुक्ल') थे। जब वे शंख बजा रहे थे, तो ऐसा लग रहा था मानो काले बादलों की पंक्ति में सफेद बगुले उड़ रहे हों या बिजली चमक रही हो। यह युद्ध के सौंदर्यशास्त्र का वर्णन है।
