वीरः प्रतपनो घोरो राक्षसो रणदुर्धरः ।
समरं तीक्ष्णवेगेन नलेन समयुध्यत ॥६-४३-१३॥
vīraḥ pratapano ghoro rākṣaso raṇadurdharaḥ |
samaraṃ tīkṣṇavegena nalena samayudhyata ॥6-43-13॥
Translation
The heroic and terrible Rakshasa Pratapan, difficult to withstand in battle, fought with Nala, who possessed sharp speed.

English Commentary
Nala is both a skilled warrior and the architect of the Vanara army. He faces Pratapan, whose name implies one who scorches his enemies. The epithet 'Ranadurdhara' highlights Pratapan's battle skills, yet Nala's courage is equally incomparable. This verse underscores the widespread nature of the battle where acts of valor are occurring on all sides.
