हरिराक्षसदेहेभ्यः प्रभूताः केशशाद्वलाः ।
शरीरसंघाटवहाः प्रस्रुषुः शोणितापगाः ॥६-४३-१७॥
harirākṣasadehebhyaḥ prabhūtāḥ keśaśādvalāḥ |
śarīrasaṃghāṭavahāḥ prasrusuḥ śoṇitāpagāḥ ॥6-43-17॥
Translation
Rivers of blood began to flow from the bodies of monkeys and Rakshasas, in which hair appeared like grass and dead bodies flowed like rafts of timber.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानरों और राक्षसों के शरीरों से रक्त की नदियाँ बहने लगीं, जिनमें बाल घास के समान तैर रहे थे और मृत शरीर काठ (लकड़ी) के ढेरों के समान बह रहे थे।
English Commentary
Sage Valmiki provides a vivid and gruesome depiction of the horrors of war. Comparing blood to a river and hair to grass is a classic epic metaphor. This verse reflects the terrifying reality of the battlefield, where the loss of life is so frequent and vast that it begins to resemble a natural flood of destruction.

वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ युद्ध की विभीषिका का अत्यंत सजीव और वीभत्स चित्रण किया है। रक्त की तुलना नदी से और बालों की घास से करना महाकाव्य की अलंकारिक शैली है। यह श्लोक युद्ध की उस भयावह वास्तविकता को दर्शाता है जहाँ जीवन का अंत इतनी सहजता और अधिकता से हो रहा है कि वह एक प्राकृतिक प्रवाह जैसा प्रतीत होने लगा है।
