Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
निकुम्भस्तु रणे नीलं नीलाञ्जनचयप्रभम् ।
निर्बिभेद शरैस्तीक्ष्णैः करैर्मेघमिवांशुमान् ॥६-४३-३१॥
nikumbhastu raṇe nīlaṃ nīlāñjanacayaprabham |
nirbibheda śaraistīkṣṇaiḥ karairmeghamivāṃśumān ॥6-43-31॥
Translation
Nikumbha pierced Nila, who had the luster of a heap of black collyrium, with sharp arrows, just as the sun pierces the clouds with its rays.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निकुम्भ ने युद्ध में काजल के ढेर के समान कांति वाले नील को अपने तीखे बाणों से वैसे ही बेध दिया, जैसे सूर्य अपनी किरणों से बादलों को बेध देता है।
English Commentary
The physical radiance of Nila is compared to a mountain of black collyrium (Anjana). The attack by Nikumbha with arrows is likened to the rays of the sun. This poetic imagery makes the scene very vivid. While these strikes were challenging for Nila, he remained undeterred in his mission.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ नील की शारीरिक आभा की तुलना काजल (अंजन) के पर्वत से की गई है। निकुम्भ द्वारा बाणों का प्रहार करना सूर्य की किरणों जैसा बताया गया है। यह काव्य उपमा दृश्य को अत्यंत स्पष्ट कर देती है। नील के लिए यह प्रहार कठिन थे, किन्तु वे विचलित नहीं हुए।
