Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रकाशरूपस्तु यदा न शक्तस्तौ बाधितुं राक्षसराजपुत्रः ।
मायां प्रयोक्तुं समुपाजगाम बबन्ध तौ राजसुतौ दुरात्मा ॥६-४४-४१॥
prakāśarūpastu yadā na śaktastau bādhituṃ rākṣasarājaputraḥ |
māyāṃ prayoktuṃ samupājagāma babandha tau rājasutau durātmā ॥6-44-41॥
Translation
When the son of the Demon King was unable to afflict them in open combat, the evil-souled one resorted to the use of magic and bound those two princes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब राक्षसराज का पुत्र (इन्द्रजित) प्रकट रूप में उन दोनों को पीड़ित करने में समर्थ न हो सका, तब उस दुरात्मा ने माया का प्रयोग किया और उन दोनों राजकुमारों को बांध लिया।
English Commentary
This verse confirms Indrajit's moral defeat and the valor of Shri Rama and Lakshmana. Only one who loses in valor resorts to magic. Valmiki clarifies that it was impossible to defeat Shri Rama fairly, hence the deceit.
हिंदी टीका
यह श्लोक इन्द्रजित की नैतिक हार और श्री राम-लक्ष्मण की वीरता की पुष्टि करता है। माया का प्रयोग वही करता है जो शौर्य में हार जाता है। वाल्मीकि जी स्पष्ट करते हैं कि श्री राम को हराना असंभव था, इसलिए छल का सहारा लिया गया।
