ततो विभिन्नसर्वाङ्गौ शरशल्याचितावुभौ ।
ध्वजाविव महेन्द्रस्य रज्जुमुक्तौ प्रकम्पितौ ॥६-४५-१७॥
tato vibhinnasarvāṅgau śaraśalyācitāvubhau |
dhvajāviva mahendrasya rajjumuktau prakampitau ॥6-45-17॥
Translation
Then, with all their limbs pierced and covered with arrow-heads, both of them (fell) trembling like the flagstaffs of Indra released from their ropes.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब जिनके सभी अंग बिंधे हुए थे और जो बाणों की नोकों से व्याप्त थे, वे दोनों रस्सियों से छूटकर गिरे हुए और कांपते हुए इन्द्रध्वज (के खंभों) की तरह (गिर पड़े)।
English Commentary
The fall of the heroes is compared to the lowering of 'Indradhvaja' (Indra's banner/flagstaff) after a festival. Just as the majestic pole falls when its ropes are released, the majestic brothers fall, trembling from shock and pain. This simile underscores their royal stature even in defeat.
हिंदी टीका
वाल्मीकि जी एक सुंदर उपमा देते हैं—'इन्द्रध्वज'। उत्सव के बाद जब इन्द्रध्वज की रस्सियां खोल दी जाती हैं तो वह जैसे धड़ाम से गिरता है, वैसे ही श्री राम-लक्ष्मण गिर पड़े। शरीर का बिंधा होना उनकी शारीरिक पीड़ा को और कांपना आघात की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है।
