Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तौ वीरशयने वीरौ शयानौ रुधिरोक्षितौ ।
शरवेष्टितसर्वाङ्गावातौ परमपीडितौ ॥६-४५-१९॥
tau vīraśayane vīrau śayānau rudhirokṣitau |
śaraveṣṭitasarvāṅgāvārtau paramapīḍitau ॥6-45-19॥
Translation
Those two heroes lay on the hero's bed (battlefield), bathed in blood, their entire bodies wrapped in arrows, distressed and in extreme pain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे दोनों वीर 'वीरशय्या' (रणभूमि) पर सोए हुए थे, रक्त से लथपथ थे, उनके सभी अंग बाणों से लिपटे (छिदे) हुए थे और वे अत्यंत पीड़ित तथा आर्त थे।
English Commentary
Lying on the battlefield is termed 'virashayana' (the bed of heroes). The image is gruesome yet heroic—bathed in blood and wrapped in arrows. The term 'sharaveshtita' (enveloped by arrows) reinforces the binding nature of the Nagapasha. Their suffering is described as 'paramapiditau' (supremely pained).

रणभूमि में गिरना वीरों के लिए 'वीरशयन' (वीरों की शय्या) कहलाता है। श्री राम और लक्ष्मण रक्त से सने थे। 'शरवेष्टित' शब्द फिर से पुष्टि करता है कि यह नागपाश था जिसने उन्हें जकड़ लिया था। उनकी पीड़ा चरम पर थी।
