स तत्र लक्ष्मणो दृष्ट्वा निराशो जीवितेऽभवत् ।
रामं कमलपत्राक्षं शरबन्धपरिक्षतम् ॥६-४५-२६॥
sa tatra lakṣmaṇo dṛṣṭvā nirāśo jīvite'bhavat |
rāmaṃ kamalapatrākṣaṃ śarabandhaparikṣatam ॥6-45-26॥
Translation
...Seeing Shri Rama there, the lotus-eyed one, severely wounded and bound by the mesh of arrows, Lakshmana became hopeless about (Shri Rama's or his own) life.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...वहां कमल जैसे नेत्रों वाले और बाणों के बंधन (नागपाश) से पूरी तरह घायल श्री राम को देखकर, वह लक्ष्मण जीवन से निराश हो गए।
English Commentary
Lakshmana's reaction is one of utter despair. Seeing his brother, the 'lotus-eyed' Lord, bound and mutilated, he loses all hope for life ('nirasho jivite'). For Lakshmana, Shri Rama is his entire world; Shri Rama's fall signifies the end of purpose and existence. It highlights the inseparable bond between the brothers.

श्री राम को गिरा हुआ देखकर लक्ष्मण की जीने की इच्छा समाप्त हो गई। श्री राम कमल नयन हैं, जो अब बंद हो रहे थे। बाणों के बंधन से क्षत-विक्षत भाई को देखना लक्ष्मण के लिए अपनी मृत्यु से भी बड़ा आघात था।
