ततो द्यां पृथिवीं चैव वीक्षमाणा वनौकसः ।
ददृशुः संततौ बाणैर्भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ॥६-४६-१॥
tato dyāṃ pṛthivīṃ caiva vīkṣamāṇā vanaukasaḥ |
dadṛśuḥ saṃtatau bāṇairbhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau ॥6-46-1॥
Translation
Thereafter, looking towards the sky and the earth, those forest-dwellers (Vanaras) saw the two brothers, Shri Rama and Lakshmana, completely covered by arrows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तत्पश्चात आकाश और पृथ्वी की ओर देखते हुए उन वनवासियों (वानरों) ने देखा कि भ्रातृद्वय श्री राम और लक्ष्मण बाणों से पूरी तरह ढके हुए पड़े हैं।
English Commentary
In this critical juncture of the war, the despair of the Vanara army is profound. Indrajit has used the Naga-pasha and illusory arrows to envelop the brothers. The Vanaras look toward the sky in confusion because the enemy was striking while remaining invisible. This verse portrays a part of Shri Rama's 'Nara-Leela' (divine play as a human), where He demonstrates the temporary power of Adharma and prepares the ground for showing how patience and righteousness eventually overcome such obstacles.

युद्ध के इस अत्यंत कठिन क्षण में वानर सेना की हताशा दर्शनीय है। इन्द्रजित ने नागपाश और मायावी बाणों से प्रभु को आच्छादित कर दिया है। वानर चकित होकर आकाश की ओर देख रहे हैं क्योंकि शत्रु अदृश्य होकर प्रहार कर रहा था। यह श्लोक प्रभु की नर-लीला का एक भाग है, जहाँ वे अपनी माया के वश में होकर भी जगत को अधर्म की शक्ति और उससे उबरने के धैर्य का पाठ पढ़ा रहे हैं।
