विक्रमा निष्फलाः सर्वे यथा शरदि तोयदाः ।
एवमुक्त्वा तु तान् सर्वान् राक्षसान् परिपार्श्वतः ॥६-४६-१७॥
vikramā niṣphalāḥ sarve yathā śaradi toyadāḥ |
evamuktvā tu tān sarvān rākṣasān paripārśvataḥ ॥6-46-17॥
Translation
All their prowess has become as fruitless as the clouds of autumn (which do not rain). Having spoken thus to all the Rakshasas standing nearby—

इनके सारे पराक्रम वैसे ही निष्फल हो गए हैं जैसे शरद ऋतु के बादल (बिना वर्षा के) होते हैं। अपने आस-पास के सभी राक्षसों से ऐसा कहकर—
English Commentary
Autumn clouds thunder but do not rain. Indrajit mistakes Shri Rama's prowess for such empty thunder. This is his greatest error. He does not realize that clouds are never permanent before the rays of the sun. He is denying the truth simply to bolster the spirit of his army.
हिंदी टीका
शरद ऋतु के बादल केवल गरजते हैं, बरसते नहीं। इन्द्रजित श्री राम के पराक्रम को वैसी ही खोखली गर्जना मान रहा है। यह उसकी सबसे बड़ी भूल है। वह नहीं जानता कि सूर्य की किरणों के आगे बादल कभी स्थायी नहीं होते। वह अपनी सेना का उत्साह बढ़ाने के लिए सत्य को नकार रहा है।
