Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रजहास महाबाहुर्वचनं चेदमब्रवीत् ।
शरबन्धेन घोरेण मया बद्धौ चमूमुखे ॥६-४६-२४॥
prajahāsa mahābāhurvacanaṃ cedamabravīt |
śarabandhena ghoreṇa mayā baddhau camūmukhe ॥6-46-24॥
Translation
The mighty-armed Indrajit laughed loudly and spoke these words: Behold, I have bound these two in a terrible bond of arrows at the front of the army.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह महाबाहु इन्द्रजित जोर से हँसा और यह वचन बोला— देखो, मैंने सेना के अग्रभाग में ही इन दोनों को भयंकर बाण-बन्धन में बांध दिया है।
English Commentary
Laughter here is the height of mockery. Binding them 'Chamumukhe' (before the whole army) is meant to show that despite all their collective strength, they could not protect their leaders. It is a petty demonic challenge to Shri Rama's divinity, which will surely be answered in due time.
हिंदी टीका
हंसी यहाँ उपहास की पराकाष्ठा है। 'चमूमुखे' (सेना के सामने) बांधना यह दिखाने के लिए है कि उनकी पूरी शक्ति के बावजूद वे अपने नायकों को नहीं बचा सके। यह श्री राम के ईश्वरत्व पर एक असुर का तुच्छ आक्षेप है, जिसका उत्तर समय आने पर अवश्य मिलेगा।
