समग्रयवमच्छिद्रं पाणिपादं च वर्णवत् ।
मन्दस्मितेत्येव च मां कन्यालक्षणिनो विदुः ॥६-४८-१३॥
samagrayavamacchidraṃ pāṇipādaṃ ca varṇavat |
mandasmitetyeva ca māṃ kanyālakṣaṇino viduḥ ॥6-48-13॥
Translation
My hands and feet have complete barley marks (Yava), no gaps between fingers, and are colorful. I have a gentle smile—thus the knowers of maiden-signs knew me.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे हाथ-पैर पूर्ण यव (जौ) के चिह्नों वाले, बिना छिद्र के और कांतियुक्त हैं। मैं मंद मुस्कान वाली हूँ—ऐसा कन्या-लक्षण जानने वालों ने मुझे बताया था।
English Commentary
Specific signs like the 'yava' (barley grain shape) on thumbs/toes indicate royalty. 'Achidram' (without gaps) fingers suggest wealth retention. Her 'mandasmita' (gentle smile) reflects her grace. Sita painfully reminisces about the astrologers who read these signs in her youth, promising a destiny that has now seemingly crumbled.

हाथ या पैर में 'यव' (जौ) का निशान राजयोग का प्रबल संकेत है। 'मंदस्मिता' (धीरे से मुस्कुराने वाली) होना शील का प्रतीक है। सीता याद करती हैं कि बचपन में ही 'कन्यालक्षणिनः' (कन्याओं के लक्षण देखने वालों) ने उनके उज्ज्वल भविष्य की बात कही थी।
