Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
येनाद्य निहता युद्धे राक्षसा विनिपातिताः ।
तस्यामेव क्षितौ वीरः स शेते निहतः परैः ॥६-४९-१४॥
yenādya nihatā yuddhe rākṣasā vinipātitāḥ |
tasyāmeva kṣitau vīraḥ sa śete nihataḥ paraiḥ ॥6-49-14॥
Translation
The hero who killed and struck down many Rakshasas in battle today, lies on the same ground, having been struck down by the enemies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसने आज युद्ध में अनेक राक्षसों का संहार किया, वही वीर आज शत्रुओं द्वारा मारा जाकर उसी भूमि पर पड़ा है।
English Commentary
The irony of war is described here. The one who was a mighty warrior just moments ago now lies in the dust. Shri Rama is recalling Shri Lakshmana's valor. This verse demonstrates the transience of the world and the cruelty of time, experienced even by the Lord Himself.

युद्ध की विडम्बना का यहाँ वर्णन है। कुछ ही क्षण पूर्व जो पराक्रमी था, वह अब धूल में पड़ा है। श्री राम श्री लक्ष्मण के शौर्य का स्मरण कर रहे हैं। यह श्लोक संसार की अनित्यता और काल की क्रूरता का दर्शन कराता है, जिसे साक्षात् भगवान भी अनुभव कर रहे हैं।
