तं राक्षसेन्द्रात्मजशङ्कया ते निपातिनौ राजसुतौ च दृष्ट्वा ।
विभीषणं वित्र्यथिरं च दृष्ट्वा मेघा यथा वायुहताः प्लवङ्गाः ॥६-४९-३५॥
taṃ rākṣasendrātmajaśaṅkayā te nipātinau rājasutau ca dṛṣṭvā |
vibhīṣaṇaṃ vitryathiraṃ ca dṛṣṭvā meghā yathā vāyuhatāḥ plavaṅgāḥ ॥6-49-35॥
Translation
Due to the suspicion of Indrajit and seeing those two princes struck down, the Vanaras fled upon seeing the distressed Vibhishana, just as clouds are dispersed by the wind.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इन्द्रजित की शंका के कारण और उन दोनों राजकुमारों को धराशायी देखकर, व्याकुल विभीषण को आते देख वानर वैसे ही भाग गए जैसे हवा के वेग से बादल उड़ जाते हैं।
English Commentary
The metaphor of wind and clouds is used here. Vibhishana himself was distressed, but the Vanaras fled mistaking him for the enemy. This verse illustrates a retreat caused by ignorance. The sarga ends on a poignant note with Shri Rama's lamentation and the dispersal of the Vanara army.

यहाँ हवा और बादल की उपमा का प्रयोग किया गया है। विभीषण स्वयं दुखी (विथ्र्यथिरम्) थे, किन्तु वानर उन्हें शत्रु समझकर भाग रहे थे। यह श्लोक अज्ञानता के कारण होने वाले पलायन का चित्रण करता है। यह सर्ग श्री राम के विलाप और वानर सेना के बिखराव के साथ एक अत्यंत मार्मिक मोड़ पर समाप्त होता है।
