Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सा तु नीलेन विधिवत् स्वारक्षा सुसमाहिता ।
सागरस्य उत्तरे तीरे साधु सेना विनिएशिता ॥६-५-१॥
sā tu nīlena vidhivatsvārakṣā susamāhitā । sāgarasyottare tīre sādhu senā niveśitā ॥6-5-1॥
Translation
That army was well-encamped on the northern shore of the ocean by Nila, in accordance with the rules, well-guarded and fully concentrated.

वह सेना, नील के द्वारा विधिपूर्वक, भली-भांति सुरक्षित और एकाग्रचित्त होकर सागर के उत्तरी तट पर अच्छी तरह ठहराई गई।
English Commentary
The fifth Sarga begins with the establishment of the base camp. Nila, the commander-in-chief, displays his logistical expertise. The terms 'vidhivat' (according to military rule) and 'svaraksha' (self-guarded) indicate that the camp was not just a gathering but a fortified position. Being on the 'northern shore' marks the geographical standoff point against Lanka across the waters.

युद्धकाण्ड का पाँचवाँ सर्ग सेना के पड़ाव और श्री राम के विलाप पर केंद्रित है। नील, जो सेनापति हैं, अपनी दक्षता का परिचय देते हैं। 'विधिवत्' (नियम अनुसार) और 'स्वारक्षा' (अपनी रक्षा के साथ) शब्दों का प्रयोग बताता है कि शत्रु क्षेत्र में प्रवेश करते ही सुरक्षा व्यवस्था चाक-चौबंद कर दी गई है। सागर का उत्तरी तट वह अंतिम सीमा है जहाँ से लंका दिखाई देती है (या उसकी दिशा तय होती है)।
