मैन्दः च द्विविधः च उभौ तत्र वानर पुम्गवौ ।
विचेरतुः च ताम् सेनाम् रक्षा अर्थम् सर्वतो दिशम् ॥६-५-२॥
maindaśca dvividaścobhau tatra vānarapuṅgavau । viceratuśca tāṃ senāṃ rakṣārthaṃ sarvato diśam ॥6-5-2॥
Translation
Both Mainda and Dvivida, the bulls among monkeys, patrolled that army in all directions for the sake of protection.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहाँ वानरश्रेष्ठ मैन्द और द्विविद—ये दोनों सेना की रक्षा के लिए सब दिशाओं में विचरण (गश्त) करने लगे।
English Commentary
Security protocols active. Mainda and Dvivida, distinct powerful warriors, undertake the perimeter patrol ('viceratuḥ'). In ancient warfare, the vulnerability of an army is highest when it settles for camp. Their patrolling ensures the safety of the resting troops from Rakshasa ambushes.

सुरक्षा गश्त (Patrolling)। मैन्द और द्विविद अश्विनी कुमारों के अंश माने जाते हैं और अपनी गति व शक्ति के लिए प्रसिद्ध हैं। जब सेना विश्श्री राम करती है, तो वरिष्ठ योद्धाओं का दायित्व है कि वे पहरा दें। यह रावण के गुप्तचरों या आकस्मिक हमलों से बचने के लिए आवश्यक था।
