कदा शोकम् इमम् घोरम् मैथिली विप्रयोगजम् ।
सहसा विप्रमोक्ष्यामि वासः शुक्ल इतरम् यथा ॥६-५-२१॥
kadā śokamimaṃ ghoraṃ maithilīviprayogajam । sahasā vipramokṣyāmi vāsaḥ śukletaraṃ yathā ॥6-5-21॥
Translation
When shall I suddenly cast off this terrible grief born of separation from Maithili, just as one casts off dirty clothes?
हिंदी अनुवाद
कब मैं मैथिली के वियोग से उत्पन्न इस घोर शोक को सहसा वैसे ही उतार फेंकूँगा, जैसे कोई मैले (शुक्लेतर) वस्त्र को उतार फेंकता है?
English Commentary
Simile of soiled clothes. Grief is compared to 'shukletaram vasah' (non-white/dirty garment). It implies that sorrow is an unnatural, temporary state covering his true nature. Reunion is the act of shedding this burden and returning to a pristine state.
हिंदी टीका
उपमा: मैला वस्त्र। श्री राम के लिए शोक एक बाहरी आवरण जैसा है जो उनकी आत्मा को मैला कर रहा है। सीता की प्राप्ति उस मैले कपड़े ('शुक्लेतरं वासः') को उतारने के समान होगी, जिससे वे पुनः शुद्ध और प्रसन्न हो सकेंगे।
