Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्त्वा तु सङ्क्रुद्धो निःश्वसन्नुरगो यथा ।
अब्रवीद्रक्षसां मध्ये धूम्राक्षं नाम राक्षसम् ॥६-५१-१७॥
niṣphalāḥ khalu saṃvṛttāḥ śarā vāsukitejasaḥ |
ādattaṃ yaistu saṃgrāme ripūṇāṃ mama jīvitam ॥6-51-17॥
Translation
'Indeed, those arrows possessing the brilliance of Vasuki have become fruitless—those by which the lives of my enemies were (seemingly) taken in battle.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'निश्चय ही वे बाण निष्फल हो गए जो वासुकि (नागराज) के समान तेजस्वी थे और जिन्होंने संग्श्री राम में मेरे शत्रुओं के प्राण ले (ही) लिए थे।'
English Commentary
Ravana laments the failure of his supreme arsenal. The arrows had the potency of Vasuki (King of Serpents), yet they proved 'nishphalah' (fruitless). He admits he thought the enemies were dead. This realization marks the collapse of his reliance on magical superiority.
हिंदी टीका
रावण को विश्वास नहीं हो रहा कि 'वासुकितेजसः' (वासुकि नाग के समान शक्ति वाले) बाण 'निष्फलाः' (बेकार) हो गए। उसे लगा था कि प्राण हर लिए गए हैं ('आदत्तं जीवितम्'), लेकिन यह भ्रम टूटा। यह उसके अहंकार पर एक और चोट है कि उसके दिव्य अस्त्र भी श्री राम के सामने व्यर्थ हैं।
