Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतत्तु वचनं चोक्त्वा मन्त्रिणो राक्षसेश्वरः ।
उवाच नैर्ऋतांस्तत्र समीपपरिवर्तिनः ॥६-५१-५॥
tau tu baddhau śaraistīkṣṇairbhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau |
ayaṃ ca sumahānādaḥ śaṅkāṃ janayatīva me ॥6-51-5॥
Translation
'Those two brothers, Shri Rama and Lakshmana, were bound by sharp arrows. And yet, this great roar generates suspicion/doubt in me.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
'वे दोनों भाई श्री राम और लक्ष्मण तो तीखे बाणों से बंधे हुए थे। (फिर भी) यह महान नाद मेरे मन में शंका उत्पन्न कर रहा है।'
English Commentary
Ravana confronts the paradox. He knows the brothers were neutralized ('baddhau') by Indrajit. However, the jubilant roar ('sumahanadah') is inconsistent with the death of leaders. This generates 'shanka' (suspicion/apprehension) in him, fearing the unthinkable—that they might have escaped the inescapable bond.

रावण विरोधाभास (Contradiction) से जूझ रहा है। एक ओर इन्द्रजित ने उन्हें नागपाश में बांधा था ('बद्धौ'), दूसरी ओर यह विजय घोष। यह 'शंका' रावण के लिए अशुभ संकेत है। उसे भय है कि कहीं उसका सबसे बड़ा अस्त्र (नागपाश) विफल तो नहीं हो गया।
