Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ध्वजैर्विमथितैर्भग्नैः खरैश्च विनिपातितैः ।
रथैर्विध्वंसितैश्चापि पतितै रजनीचरैः ॥६-५२-१२॥
śilābhiścūrṇitāḥ kecidkeciddantairvidāritāḥ |
dhvajaīrvimathitaīrbhagnaīḥ rathaīśca vinipātitaīḥ ॥6-52-12॥
Translation
Some were powdered by rocks, some were torn apart by teeth. Banners were crushed and chariots were broken and cast down.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुछ राक्षस शिलाओं से चूर्ण कर दिए गए, कुछ वानरों के दांतों से विदीर्ण हुए। वहाँ ध्वजाएं नष्ट हो गई थीं और रथ टूटकर गिर गए थे।
English Commentary
The use of teeth by the Vanaras demonstrates their primal yet indomitable power. The falling of chariots and banners symbolizes the collapse of an organized military. A banner is a symbol of honor, and its being 'Vimathita' (crushed) signifies the pride of the Rakshasa army being ground into the dust.

वानरों द्वारा दांतों का प्रयोग उनकी पाशविक किन्तु अदम्य शक्ति को दिखाता है। रथों और ध्वजाओं का गिरना एक संगठित सेना के पतन का प्रतीक है। ध्वजा सम्मान का प्रतीक होती है, और उसका 'विमथित' होना राक्षस सेना के गौरव के धूल में मिलने का परिचायक है।
