Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
धूम्राक्षस्तु धनुष्पाणिर्वानरान् रणमूर्धनि ।
हसन् विद्रावयामास दिशस्तु शरवृष्टिभिः ॥६-५२-२५॥
dhanurjyātantrimadhuraṃ hikkātālasamanvitam |
mandastanitasaṃgītaṃ yuddhagāndharvamābabhau ॥6-52-25॥
Translation
With the sweet sound of bowstrings for strings, the rhythm of gasps/sobs, and the music of low roars, the battle appeared like a Gandharva musical performance.
हिंदी अनुवाद
धनुष की डोरी की मधुर टंकार वाली, सिसकियों के ताल वाली और मंद गर्जना के संगीत वाली वह युद्ध-भूमि गंधर्वों के संगीत (युद्ध-गांधर्व) के समान सुशोभित हुई।
English Commentary
This is one of the finest poetic metaphors in Valmiki Ramayana. The poet perceives a rhythm even within the horror of war. The bowstrings are the strings of a lute and the sounds of groans are the rhythm. It shows that in the eyes of the great sages, even this conflict of life and death is part of nature's vast performance.

यह वाल्मीकि श्री रामायण की एक श्रेष्ठ काव्य उपमा है। कवि ने युद्ध की विभीषिका में भी एक लय (Rhythm) देखी है। धनुष की डोरी वीणा के तार हैं और कराहने की ध्वनियाँ ताल हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि महापुरुषों की दृष्टि में जीवन और मृत्यु का यह द्वंद्व भी प्रकृति के एक विराट आयोजन का हिस्सा है।
