Vajradamshtra displays the composure of a veteran warrior. 'Asambhrantah' (unconfused/calm) indicates he quickly adapted to the loss of his chariot, switching weapons to a mace ('gada'). He stands his ground, ready for close-quarters combat. The narrative creates suspense by tracking the trajectory of the missed boulder, leading to the destruction describing in the next verse.
