अभवच्छोणितोद्गारी वज्रदंष्ट्रः स मूर्च्छितः ।
मुहूर्तमभवन्मूढो गदामालिङ्ग्य निःश्वसन् ॥६-५४-२७॥
jaghāna paramakruddho vakṣodeśe niśācaraḥ |
gadāṃ tyaktvā tatastatra muṣṭiyuddhamavartata ॥6-54-27॥
Translation
...struck him on the chest with great anger. Then, abandoning the mace, a fist-fight ensued there.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...अत्यंत क्रोध में भरकर छाती पर प्रहार किया। तदनंतर वहाँ गदा छोड़कर मुष्टियुद्ध (घूंसों की लड़ाई) होने लगा।
English Commentary
The Rakshasa lands a solid blow on Angada's chest. Following this, the combat transitions to 'mushti-yuddham' (boxing/fist-fighting). Abandoning weapons implies either a mutual loss of armaments or a desire to settle the score with bare hands. This descent into hand-to-hand combat strips away the veneer of martial arts, leaving only raw strength and endurance to decide the victor.

वज्रदंष्ट्र ने अंगद की छाती ('वक्षोदेशे') पर गदा का भारी प्रहार किया। ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि इस प्रहार के बाद या तो गदा टूट गई या दोनों ने हथियारों से लड़ना व्यर्थ समझा, अतः उन्होंने गदा त्याग दी। इसके बाद 'मुष्टियुद्ध' आरंभ हुआ। यह युद्ध का सबसे आदिम और क्रूर रूप है, जहाँ योद्धा अपने शारीरिक बल से एक-दूसरे को नष्ट करने का प्रयास करते हैं।
