शूराणां युद्ध्यमानानां समरेष्वनिवर्तिनाम् ।
तद्राक्षसगणानां च सुयुद्धं समवर्तत ॥६-५४-७॥
śūrāṇāṃ yudhyamānānāṃ samareṣvanivartinām |
tadrākṣasagaṇānāṃ ca suyuddhaṃ samavartata ॥6-54-7॥
Translation
A fierce battle ensued between those heroic monkeys, who never retreated in battle, and the hordes of Rakshasas.

समरभूमि में कभी पीठ न दिखाने वाले उन शूरवीर वानरों और राक्षस समूहों के बीच वह महाभयानक युद्ध छिड़ गया।
English Commentary
This verse characterizes the resolve of the combatants. Both sides are described as 'anivartinam'—those who do not turn back or retreat. This steadfastness guarantees a collision of epic proportions. The term 'suyuddham' implies a battle that is fought well, meaning it was intense, closely contested, and worthy of praise due to the bravery displayed on both sides. It highlights that the struggle between good and evil requires unwavering persistence.

यहाँ दोनों पक्षों की एक समान विशेषता बताई गई है—'अनिवर्तिनाम्' अर्थात् जो युद्ध से कभी पीछे नहीं हटते। एक ओर धर्म के लिए लड़ने वाले वानर थे और दूसरी ओर अपने स्वामी रावण के लिए लड़ने वाले राक्षस। जब दो ऐसे पक्ष टकराते हैं जो मृत्यु के भय से मुक्त हों, तो युद्ध 'सुयुद्ध' (महाभयानक/घोर संग्श्री राम) बन जाता है। यह श्लोक दोनों सेनाओं के योद्धाओं के शौर्य को सम्मान देता है, यह दर्शाते हुए कि विजय सरलता से प्राप्त नहीं होने वाली थी।
