राक्षसाश्चापि रक्षांसि निजघ्नुस्तिमिरं तदा ।
परांश्चैव विनिघ्नन्तः स्वांश्च वानरराक्षसाः ॥६-५५-२३॥
rākṣasāścāpi rakṣāṃsi nijaghnustimiraṃ tadā |
parāṃścaiva vinighnantaḥ svāṃśca vānararākṣasāḥ ॥6-55-23॥
Translation
Similarly, in that darkness, Rakshasas also began to slay Rakshasas. At that time, both Vanaras and Rakshasas were killing their own people along with the enemies.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसी प्रकार उस अंधकार में राक्षस भी राक्षसों को ही मारने लगे। उस समय वे वानर और राक्षस शत्रुओं के साथ-साथ अपने ही लोगों का भी संहार करने लगे।
English Commentary
The chaos pervades both sides equally. 'Timira' (darkness) here is not just physical but also mental. When an individual is solely possessed by the impulse to kill in battle, they lose the distinction between friend and foe. This verse highlights the futility of war and the blind destruction it brings.

अराजकता दोनों पक्षों में समान रूप से व्याप्त है। 'तिमिर' (अंधकार) यहाँ केवल भौतिक नहीं, बल्कि मानसिक भी है। युद्ध में जब व्यक्ति केवल संहार के आवेश में होता है, तो वह मित्र और शत्रु का भेद भूल जाता है। यह श्लोक युद्ध की निरर्थकता और उससे होने वाले अंधे विनाश को रेखांकित करता है।
