हुताशनं तर्पयतां ब्राह्मणांश्च नमस्यताम् ।
आज्यगन्धप्रतिवहः सुरभिर्मारुतो ववौ ॥६-५७-२२॥
hutāśanaṃ tarpayatāṃ brāhmaṇāṃśca namasyatām |
ājyagandhaprativahaḥ surabhirmāruto vavau ॥6-57-22॥
Translation
While they were propitiating the fire and bowing to Brahmins, a fragrant wind blew, carrying the scent of clarified butter (ghee).
हिंदी अनुवाद
अग्नि को तृप्त करते हुए (हवन करते हुए) और ब्राह्मणों को नमस्कार करते हुए (राक्षसों के बीच), घी की सुगंध लेकर बहने वाली सुगंधित वायु चलने लगी।
English Commentary
This verse offers a fascinating cultural insight. The Rakshasas, often depicted as demons, are shown performing Vedic rituals—offering oblations to fire and respecting Brahmins—before battle. The scent of sacrificial ghee ('ajya-gandha') wafting through the air creates a solemn, sacred atmosphere. It humanizes the enemy, showing they too sought divine favor and adhered to their own dharma, adding depth to the conflict.
