व्यभ्रमाकाशमाविश्य मांसशोणितभोजनाः ।
मण्डलान्यपसव्यानि खगाश्चक्रू रथं प्रति ॥६-५७-३५॥
laṅkāyāṃ sarvabhūtāni vinedurvikṛtaiḥ svaraiḥ |
vyabhramākāśamāviśya māṃsaśoṇitabhojanāḥ ॥6-57-35॥
Translation
...all creatures in Lanka cried out in distorted/horrible voices. Flesh and blood-eating birds occupied the cloudless sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...लंका में सभी प्राणी (अशुभ) और विकृत स्वरों में चिल्लाने लगे। मांस और रक्त खाने वाले पक्षी मेघ-रहित आकाश में छा गए।
English Commentary
Nature turns ominous. The 'vikritaih svaraih' (distorted voices) of animals signal something unnatural and doomed. The sky, though cloudless, is darkened by scavenging birds ('mamsa-shonita-bhojanah' - eaters of flesh and blood). This foreshadows the carnage to come, indicating that the birds know a feast of death is imminent. Prahasta is marching into a trap set by destiny.

यहाँ से अपशकुनों (Bad Omens) की श्रृंखला आरंभ होती है। प्रकृति आसन्न विनाश को भांप लेती है। जानवर 'विकृत' (अजीब/डरावनी) आवाजें निकालने लगे। आकाश में बादल नहीं थे ('व्यभ्रम्'), फिर भी वह गिद्धों और मांसाहारी पक्षियों से भर गया जो भोजन (लाशों) की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे। यह संकेत है कि यह अभियान प्रहस्त के लिए घातक सिद्ध होगा।
