Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
वेगितानां समर्थानामन्योन्यवधकाङ्क्षिणाम् ।
परस्परं चाह्वयतां निनादः श्रूयते महान् ॥६-५७-४५॥
veginānāṃ samarthānāmanyonyavadhakāṅkṣiṇām |
parasparaṃ cāhvayanāṃ ninādaḥ śrūyate mahān ॥6-57-45॥
Translation
A great noise was heard of those swift and capable warriors, desiring to kill each other and challenging one another.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वेगवान, समर्थ, एक-दूसरे का वध करने की आकांक्षा रखने वाले और एक-दूसरे को ललकारते हुए उन योद्धाओं का महान नाद (शोर) सुनाई पड़ने लगा।
English Commentary
The cacophony of war. The descriptors 'capable' ('samarthanam') and 'desiring to kill each other' ('anyonya-vadha-kankshinam') strip away any romanticism—this is about lethal intent. The shouting of challenges ('ahvayanam') personalizes the conflict. The verse sets the final atmospheric tone before the physical impact of the two armies.

टकराव से ठीक पहले का क्षण। योद्धाओं के विशेषण—'वेगवान', 'समर्थ' और 'अन्योन्यवधकाङ्क्षिणाम्' (एक दूसरे को मारने के इच्छुक)—युद्ध की तीव्रता को बताते हैं। वे एक-दूसरे को नाम लेकर या जाति लेकर ललकार रहे थे। यह महान नाद उस हिंसा का संगीत था जो अब शुरू होने वाली थी।
