रक्षसामप्रहृष्टानां लङ्कामभिजगाम ह ।
न शेकुः समरे स्थातुं निहते वाहिनीपतौ ॥६-५८-५८॥
rakṣasāmaprahṛṣṭānāṃ laṅkāmabhi jagāma ha |
na śekuḥ samare sthātuṃ nihate vāhinīpataū ॥6-58-58॥
Translation
The army of those unhappy and dejected Rakshasas fled toward Lanka. Upon the slaughter of their army-chief, they were unable to stay in the battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन दुखी और उत्साहहीन राक्षसों की सेना लंका की ओर भाग गई। सेनापति के मारे जाने पर वे युद्ध में खड़े रहने में समर्थ नहीं हुए।
English Commentary
An army without a general is like a body that has lost its head. The Rakshasas becoming 'Aprahrista' (dejected) is a psychological admission of their defeat. They are now fleeing toward the safety of the fortress of Lanka just to save their lives.
हिंदी टीका
सेनापति के बिना सेना एक शरीर के समान है जिसका सिर कट गया हो। राक्षसों का 'अपrahṛṣṭa' (उत्साहहीन) होना उनकी पराजय की मानसिक स्वीकारोक्ति है। वे अब केवल अपनी जान बचाने के लिए लंका के सुरक्षित दुर्ग की ओर भाग रहे हैं।
