Srimad Valmiki Ramayana - Yuddha Kanda - Sarga 59

एवमुक्तो महातेजा रावणो राक्षसेश्वरः ।
आजघानानिलसुतं तलेनोरसि वीर्यवान् ॥६-५९-६०॥

evamukto mahātejā rāvaṇo rākṣaseśvaraḥ |
ājaghānānilasutaṃ talenorasi vīryavān ॥6-59-60॥

Translation

Being addressed thus, the high-souled and valiant Lord of Rakshasas struck the son of the Wind God on his chest with his palm.

हिंदी अनुवाद

ऐसा कहे जाने पर महातेजस्वी और वीर्यवान राक्षसराज रावण ने वायुपुत्र की छाती पर एक थप्पड़ मारा।

English Commentary

Reminded of his son's death, Ravana loses his temper and strikes Hanuman on the chest with his palm ('tala'). This is a blow of close combat, not weaponry.

हिंदी टीका

पुत्र वध की याद दिलाते ही रावण आपा खो बैठता है और हनुमान जी की छाती पर 'तल' (हथेली/थप्पड़) से प्रहार करता है। यह शस्त्र का नहीं, बल्कि द्वंद्व युद्ध का प्रहार है।
