Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पन्नगप्रतिमैर्भीमैः परमर्मातिभेदिभिः ।
शरैरादीपयामास नीलं हरिचमूपतिम् ॥६-५९-७१॥
pannagapratimairbhīmaiḥ paramarmātibhedibhiḥ |
śarairādīpayāmāsa nīlaṃ haricamūpatim ॥6-59-71॥
Translation
Ravana inflamed Nila, the commander of the monkey army, with terrifying arrows that resembled snakes and were capable of piercing the vitals of the enemy.
हिंदी अनुवाद
रावण ने सर्पों के समान भयानक और शत्रुओं के मर्म (हृदय आदि) को भेदने वाले बाणों से वानर सेनापति नील को (क्रोध और पीड़ा से) प्रज्वलित कर दिया।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Ravana's mastery of archery. His arrows are compared to 'pannaga' (snakes), suggesting lethality and swiftness. By targeting Nila, the commander-in-chief ('chamupatim') of the Vanara forces, Ravana aims to decapitate the enemy's leadership. The term 'adipayamasa' (inflamed/ignited) metaphorically suggests that while the arrows caused physical burning pain, they also stoked the fire of retaliation within Nila. It sets the stage for a fierce duel between the two commanders.

इस श्लोक में रावण के आक्रामक कौशल का वर्णन है। उसके बाण 'पन्नगप्रतिमैः' (सांपों के समान) हैं, जो न केवल विषैले हैं, बल्कि लक्ष्य को डसने (भेदने) में अचूक हैं। नील, जो वानर सेना के प्रमुख सेनापति हैं, रावण के सीधे निशाने पर हैं। 'आदीपयामास' (प्रज्वलित कर दिया) का अर्थ यहाँ शारीरिक पीड़ा के साथ-साथ नील के भीतर प्रतिशोध की अग्नि जगाने से भी है। रावण का उद्देश्य वानर सेना के मनोबल को तोड़ने के लिए उनके नेता को घायल करना था।
