स तान् वृक्षान् समासाद्य प्रतिचिच्छेद रावणः ।
अभ्यवर्षत् सुघोरेण शरवर्षेण पावकिम् ॥६-५९-७८॥
mahatā śaravarṣeṇa vadhyamānaḥ kapīśvaraḥ |
hrasvaṃ rūpaṃ samāsthāya dhvajāgre nipapāta ha ॥6-59-78॥
Translation
Being struck by that great shower of arrows, Nila, the Lord of monkeys, assumed a diminutive form and leaped onto the top of Ravana's flag-staff.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बाणों की उस भारी वर्षा से पीड़ित होकर वानरराज नील ने छोटा रूप धारण कर लिया और वे रावण के रथ की ध्वजा के शिखर पर जा गिरे (कूद गए)।
English Commentary
Nila displays tactical brilliance and supernatural ability. Overwhelmed by the arrows, he shrinks his body ('hrasvam rupam'), presenting a smaller target. By leaping onto Ravana's own flag-staff ('dhvajagre'), he moves into the blind spot of the archer. This is a clever maneuver, turning Ravana's chariot into a sanctuary for his own enemy, effectively nullifying Ravana's ranged advantage.

यहाँ नील की मायावी शक्ति और बुद्धिमत्ता का परिचय मिलता है। जब सामने से मुकाबला कठिन हो गया, तो उन्होंने 'ह्रस्वं रूपं' (छोटा रूप) धारण कर लिया। यह कामरूपत्व (इच्छानुसार रूप बदलना) वानरों की, विशेषकर देवताओं के पुत्रों की विशेषता है। रावण के बाणों से बचने के लिए वे उसी के रथ की ध्वजा पर जा बैठे। यह 'दीये तले अँधेरा' वाली स्थिति थी—शत्रु के सिर के ऊपर ही सबसे सुरक्षित स्थान था।
