तमाह सौमित्रिरदीनसत्त्वो विस्फारयन्तं धनुरप्रमेयम् ।
अभ्येहि मामेव निशाचरेन्द्र न वानरांस्त्वं प्रतियोद्धुमर्हः ॥६-५९-९४॥
sa evamuktaḥ kupitaḥ sasarja |
rakṣodhipaḥ sapta śarān supuṅkhān |
tāṃllakṣmaṇaḥ kāñcanacitrapuṅkhai |
ściccheda bāṇairniśitāgradhāraiḥ ॥6-59-94॥
Translation
Addressed thus, the angry Lord of Rakshasas released seven well-feathered arrows. Lakshmana cut them down with his sharp-edged arrows adorned with beautiful golden feathers.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहे जाने पर कुपित हुए राक्षसराज ने (लक्ष्मण पर) सात सुंदर पंख वाले बाण छोड़े। लक्ष्मण ने (अपने) सोने के विचित्र पंखों वाले और तीखी धार वाले बाणों से उन्हें काट दिया।
English Commentary
Action follows words. Ravana, stung by the insult, fires seven arrows. Lakshmana intercepts them effortlessly. The description of Lakshmana's arrows ('kanchana-chitra-punkhaih') highlights their divine quality. This exchange establishes parity; Lakshmana is equal to the task of defending against the Demon King.

बातों का समय समाप्त हुआ। अपमानित रावण ने तुरंत सात बाण छोड़े। लक्ष्मण ने उतनी ही तत्परता से उन्हें हवा में काट दिया। 'काञ्चनचित्रपुङ्खैः' (सोने के पंख वाले) बाण लक्ष्मण के अस्त्रों की दिव्यता और गुणवत्ता को दर्शाते हैं। यह द्वंद्व का पहला चरण था—शत्रु के प्रहार को निष्फल करना।
