Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सर्वं तत् खलु मे मोघं यत्तप्तं परमं तपः ।
यत् समानो महेन्द्रेण मानुषेणास्मि निर्जितः ॥६-६०-५॥
sarvaṃ tat khalu me moghaṃ yattaptaṃ paramaṃ tapaḥ |
yat samāno mahendreṇa mānuṣeṇāsmi nirjitaḥ ॥6-60-5॥
Translation
All that supreme penance I performed has indeed gone in vain, for although equal to Mahendra (Indra), I have been vanquished by a human.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैंने जो परम तप किया था, वह सब निश्चय ही व्यर्थ हो गया, क्योंकि महेन्द्र (इन्द्र) के समान होते हुए भी मैं एक मनुष्य द्वारा पराजित कर दिया गया हूँ।
English Commentary
This is a moment of self-reflection for Ravana. He took pride in his penance and boons, but today they seem 'mogha' (futile) to him. He considers himself equal to Indra, yet the shame of being defeated by a 'mere human' (Shri Rama) gnaws at him. It reflects his ignorance that he still perceives Shri Rama as just a human being.

यह रावण के आत्म-विश्लेषण का क्षण है। उसे अपनी तपस्या और वरदानों पर गर्व था, लेकिन आज उसे वे सब 'मोघ' (व्यर्थ) लग रहे हैं। वह स्वयं को इन्द्र के समान मानता है, किन्तु एक 'साधारण मनुष्य' (श्री राम) द्वारा हराए जाने की ग्लानि उसे साल रही है। यह उसकी अज्ञानता है कि वह अब भी श्रीश्री राम को केवल एक मनुष्य समझ रहा है।
