Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
देवदानवगन्धर्वैर्यक्षराक्षसपन्नगैः ।
अवध्यत्वं मया प्राप्तं मानुषेभ्यो न याचितम् ॥६-६०-७॥
devadānavagandharvairyakṣarākṣasapannagaiḥ |
avadhyatvaṃ mayā prāptaṃ mānuṣebhyo na yācitam ॥6-60-7॥
Translation
I obtained immunity from death at the hands of Devas, Danavas, Gandharvas, Yakshas, Rakshasas, and Serpents, but I did not ask for it from humans.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैंने देवताओं, दानवों, गन्धर्वों, यक्षों, राक्षसों और सर्पों से अवध्यता (न मारे जाने का वरदान) प्राप्त की थी, (किन्तु) मनुष्यों से (रक्षा की) याचना नहीं की थी।
English Commentary
Ravana admits the oversight that has become the cause of his downfall. He deemed humans so trivial that he didn't even consider it necessary to ask for protection from them. This 'loophole' is now proving fatal. This verse demonstrates that overconfidence and underestimating others lead to ruin.

रावण अपनी उस भूल को स्वीकार करता है जो उसके विनाश का कारण बनी। उसने मनुष्यों को इतना तुच्छ समझा कि उनसे सुरक्षा मांगना भी आवश्यक नहीं समझा। यह 'छिद्र' (कमी) अब उसके लिए प्राणघातक सिद्ध हो रहा है। यह श्लोक सिद्ध करता है कि अति-आत्मविश्वास और दूसरों को छोटा समझना पतन का कारण बनता है।
