Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न ह्यल्पकारणे सुप्तं बोधयिष्यति मां गुरुः ।
तदाख्यातार्थतत्त्वेन मत्प्रबोधनकारणम् ॥६-६०-७१॥
na hyalpakāraṇe suptaṃ bodhayiṣyati māṃ guruḥ |
tadākhyātārthatattvena matprabodhanakāraṇam ॥6-60-71॥
Translation
Surely, my elder brother (the King) would not wake me from my sleep for a trivial reason. Therefore, tell me the real truth and the cause of my awakening.
हिंदी अनुवाद
निश्चय ही मेरे बड़े भाई (गुरु/रावण) मुझे किसी छोटे कारण से नहीं जगाते। अतः मेरे जगाए जाने का यथार्थ कारण मुझे तत्त्वतः (सच-सच) बताओ।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna, despite his demonic nature, displays sharp intuition. He understands that his awakening, which disrupts a divinely ordained cycle of sleep, implies a crisis of immense magnitude. By addressing Ravana as 'Guru' (elder/mentor), he shows respect for the hierarchy. His demand for the 'tattva' (essence/truth) indicates that he wants a clear situation report, not sugar-coated words, before he commits his immense strength to the cause.

कुम्भकर्ण अपनी नींद की प्रकृति और रावण के स्वभाव को भली-भाँति जानता था। उसे आभास हो गया था कि यदि उसे असमय जगाया गया है, तो अवश्य ही लंका पर कोई भारी विपत्ति आई है। 'गुरु' शब्द यहाँ रावण के लिए सम्मानसूचक है। कुम्भकर्ण सचिवों से 'अर्थतत्त्वेन' (वास्तविक सत्य) जानने की मांग करता है, ताकि वह स्थिति की गंभीरता का सही आकलन कर सके। यह उसकी बुद्धि और युद्ध के प्रति गंभीरता को दर्शाता है।
