Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स राजमार्गं वपुषा प्रकाशयन् सहस्ररश्मिर्धरणीमिवांशुभिः ।
जगाम तत्राञ्जलिमालया वृतः शतक्रतुर्गेहमिव स्वयम्भुवः ॥६-६०-९६॥
sa rājamārgaṃ vapuṣā prakāśayan sahasraraśmirdharaṇīmivāṃśubhiḥ |
jagāma tatrāñjalimālayā vṛtaḥ śatakraturgehamiva svayambhuvaḥ ॥6-60-96॥
Translation
Illuminating the royal road with his body just as the thousand-rayed sun illuminates the earth with its rays, he went there surrounded by a garland of folded hands, like Indra going to the abode of Brahma.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे सूर्य (सहस्ररश्मि) अपनी किरणों से पृथ्वी को प्रकाशित करते हैं, वैसे ही वह अपने शरीर (की कांति) से राजमार्ग को प्रकाशित करता हुआ चला। (राक्षसों की) अंजलि-माला (जुड़े हुए हाथों की कतार) से घिरा हुआ वह ऐसा लग रहा था जैसे इन्द्र (शतक्रतु) ब्रह्मा (स्वयंभु) के भवन जा रहे हों।
English Commentary
The poet uses celestial metaphors to describe the demon prince. He radiates light like the sun, dispelling the gloom of the siege. Being surrounded by respectful followers ('anjali-malaya vritah') elevates him to the status of Indra. It portrays him as a glorious hero of his people, tragic in his magnificence given his impending doom.

कुम्भकर्ण केवल डरावना नहीं, बल्कि 'दिव्य' भी लग रहा था। उसके शरीर का तेज सूर्य जैसा था। राक्षस उसे हाथ जोड़कर घेरे हुए थे, जिससे वह देवताओं के राजा इन्द्र जैसा प्रतीत हो रहा था। यह उपमाएँ उसके राजसी ठाठ और राक्षसों के बीच उसके सम्मान को दर्शाती हैं।
