शूलपाणिं विरूपाक्षं कुम्भकर्णं महाबलम् ।
हन्तुं न शेकुस्त्रिदशाः कालो ऽयमिति मोहिताः ॥६-६१-११॥
śūlapāṇiṃ virūpākṣaṃ kumbhakarṇaṃ mahābalam |
hantuṃ na śekustridaśāḥ kālo 'yamiti mohitāḥ ॥6-61-11॥
Translation
Even the Gods could not kill this mighty Kumbhakarna, who holds a trident and has misshapen eyes; they were deluded into thinking he was Death (Kala) himself.

हाथ में शूल लिए हुए और विकराल नेत्रों वाले इस महाबली कुम्भकर्ण को देवता भी नहीं मार सके; वे इसे साक्षात् 'काल' मानकर भ्रमित हो गए थे।
English Commentary
Kumbhakarna wielding a trident symbolizes his destructive capacity. The failure of the Gods confirms his invincibility. Mistaking him for 'Kala' (Death or Time) indicates that his wrath was cataclysmic. This description clarifies that Kumbhakarna was not just a demon but akin to a natural disaster that even the celestial beings could not withstand.

कुम्भकर्ण का शूल धारण करना उसकी संहारक शक्ति का प्रतीक है। देवताओं की विफलता उसकी अपराजेयता को पुष्ट करती है। उसे 'काल' समझना यह दर्शाता है कि उसका प्रकोप प्रलयकारी था। यह वर्णन स्पष्ट करता है कि कुम्भकर्ण केवल एक राक्षस नहीं, बल्कि एक प्राकृतिक आपदा के समान था जिसका सामना करना देवताओं के भी वश में नहीं था।
