तेषु सम्भक्ष्यमाणेषु प्रजा भयनिपीडिताः ।
यान्ति स्म शरणं शक्रं तमप्यर्थं न्यवेदयन् ॥६-६१-१४॥
teṣu sambhakṣyamāṇeṣu prajā bhayanipīḍitāḥ |
yānti sma śaraṇaṃ śakraṃ tamapyarthaṃ nyavedayan ॥6-61-14॥
Translation
When those beings were being devoured, the subjects, tormented by fear, sought refuge with Indra and reported the matter to him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब वह प्राणियों को खाने लगा, तब भय से पीड़ित प्रजा देवराज इन्द्र की शरण में गई और उन्हें सारा वृत्तांत सुनाया।
English Commentary
When Kumbhakarna's terror became unbearable, the subjects sought refuge with Indra. This highlights the principles of governance and protection, where the ruler's (Indra's) duty is to safeguard subjects in distress. This verse sets the background for the celestial intervention against Kumbhakarna.

कुम्भकर्ण का आतंक जब असहनीय हो गया, तब प्रजा ने इन्द्र की शरण ली। यह शासन और रक्षण की मर्यादा को दर्शाता है, जहाँ राजा (इन्द्र) का कर्तव्य संकट में पड़ी प्रजा की रक्षा करना है। यह श्लोक कुम्भकर्ण के विरुद्ध देवताओं के हस्तक्षेप की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार करता है।
