Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रजाभिः सह शक्रश्च ययौ स्थानं स्वयम्भुवः ।
कुम्भकर्णस्य दौरात्म्यं शशंसुस्ते प्रजापतेः ॥६-६१-१९॥
prajābhiḥ saha śakraśca yayau sthānaṃ svayambhuvaḥ |
kumbhakarṇasya daurātmyaṃ śaśaṃsuste prajāpateḥ ॥6-61-19॥
Translation
Then Indra, along with the subjects, went to the abode of Brahma (the Self-born) and related the wickedness of Kumbhakarna to the Lord of Subjects.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब इन्द्र प्रजा के साथ ब्रह्मा जी के पास गए और उन्होंने प्रजापति को कुम्भकर्ण के दुष्ट कर्मों (दौरात्म्य) के विषय में बताया।
English Commentary
When power fails, prayer and justice are sought. Indra’s journey to Lord Brahma indicates that the problem of Kumbhakarna could no longer be solved through mere warfare. The term 'dauratmya' (wickedness/tyranny) encapsulates all his deeds that violated the boundaries of Dharma.

जब शक्ति विफल हो जाती है, तब प्रार्थना और न्याय की शरण ली जाती है। इन्द्र का ब्रह्मा जी के पास जाना यह दर्शाता है कि कुम्भकर्ण की समस्या अब केवल युद्ध से हल होने वाली नहीं थी। यहाँ 'दौरात्म्य' शब्द उसके उन सभी कृत्यों को समाहित करता है जो धर्म की मर्यादा के विरुद्ध थे।
