Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कुम्भकर्णं समीक्ष्यैव वितत्रास प्रजापतिः ।
दृष्ट्वा विश्वास्य चैवेदं स्वयम्भूरिदमब्रवीत् ॥६-६१-२३॥
kumbhakarṇaṃ samīkṣyaiva vitatrāsa prajāpatiḥ |
dṛṣṭvā viśvāsya caivedaṃ svayambhūridamabravīt ॥6-61-23॥
Translation
Upon just seeing Kumbhakarna, Brahma, the Lord of Subjects, Himself felt frightened. Then, having observed him and regained His composure, the Self-born spoke as follows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कुम्भकर्ण को देखते ही प्रजापति ब्रह्मा जी स्वयं डर गए। फिर उसे देखकर और आश्वस्त होकर स्वयंभू ब्रह्मा ने यह बात कही।
English Commentary
Brahma’s fear is the ultimate acknowledgment of the terrifying nature of Kumbhakarna’s form. When the creator of the universe is perturbed, one can imagine the situation. However, the word 'vishvasya' (regaining composure) re-establishes His stability, which is essential for a judge. He is now poised to announce a decisive punishment.

ब्रह्मा जी का भयभीत होना कुम्भकर्ण के स्वरूप की भीषणता की चरम स्वीकारोक्ति है। जब सृष्टि का रचयिता भी विचलित हो जाए, तो स्थिति की कल्पना की जा सकती है। किन्तु 'विश्वास्य' (आश्वस्त होकर) शब्द उनकी स्थिरता को पुनः स्थापित करता है, जो एक न्यायाधीश के लिए अनिवार्य है। वे अब एक निर्णायक दण्ड की घोषणा करने वाले हैं।
