एकेनाह्ना त्वसौ वीरश्चरन् भूमिं बुभुक्षितः ।
व्यात्तास्यो भक्षयेल्लोकान् सक्रुद्ध इव पावकः ॥६-६१-२९॥
ekenāhnā tvasau vīraścaran bhūmiṃ bubhukṣitaḥ |
vyāttāsyo bhakṣayellokān sakruddha इव pāvakaḥ ॥6-61-29॥
Translation
On that one day, being hungry and wandering over the earth, that hero, with his mouth wide open, will devour beings like an enraged fire consuming everything.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस एक दिन वह वीर भूख से व्याकुल होकर पृथ्वी पर विचरण करेगा और अपना मुख खोलकर लोकों को वैसे ही खाएगा जैसे क्रोधित अग्नि सब कुछ भस्म कर देती है।
English Commentary
On the day he woke, Kumbhakarna's hunger was destined to be even more ferocious. The metaphor of 'enraged fire' depicts his destructive consumption. This verse clarifies that Kumbhakarna's waking was no less than a catastrophe for the world. Vibhishana relates all this to Shri Rama so that He may fully grasp the nature of this adversary.

जागने वाले दिन कुम्भकर्ण की भूख और भी भयंकर होने वाली थी। 'क्रोधित अग्नि' की उपमा उसके विनाशकारी भक्षण को दर्शाती है। यह श्लोक यह स्पष्ट करता है कि कुम्भकर्ण का जागना भी सृष्टि के लिए किसी आपदा से कम नहीं था। विभीषण यह सब श्री राम को इसलिए बता रहे हैं ताकि वे इस शत्रु की प्रकृति को पूर्णतः समझ सकें।
